1) What’s the story behind MAHA cosmetics? Makeup has always been a hobby of mine. 1 1/2 years ago, I started a makeup account on Instagram (@makeupbymaha._), and over the course of those 1 1/2 years, I gained over 30,000 followers! Because of this growth, I was able to work with many makeup companies through collaborations, which gave me a lot of insight as to what it’s like to create products, packaging, etc. And so, because of these experiences, I felt confident enough to start my own line and share my love of makeup by creating own products. 2) What something that happened because you started your own business ? Now that I have started my own business, I have gained a better understanding of organization and time management. These two characteristics are very important in order to stay on top of everything and making sure you provide your customers with the best experience as possible. 3) Name a pro and con to running your own business. A pro to running my own business is the ability to have the creative freedom to create anything I want. The limit is endless, and I love the fact that I can push my creativity as much as possible and create products that haven’t been made before! A con to running my own business is the financial risk I have to take each time I order a larger restock. In addition to that, there are countless hours that need to be spent working on making everything perfect! Lastly, I’d say there are fewer opportunities to take vacations when you’re so devoted to growing. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a con, but coming up with new designs takes a lot of time and effort too. Having said that— the response and growth once releasing the design is all worth the hard work that it takes to create it! 4) What other kind of products are you hoping to sell once your website launches? As of right now I’ll be sticking to lashes and bundles, but I plan on added lip products and eyeshadow palettes some day! 5) How long does it take you to prepare an order? It takes about 10-15 minutes to prepare an order. There are many components that go into making my bundles so I always triple check that I have everything down perfectly! It also takes time to tape the packaging box up, wrap everything up with tissue paper, write a thank you note, and close it off to be shipped! 6) What is your favorite product from your store so far? Currently, my main products are my lashes. I have four lash styles which are available to either buy separately or to buy in a bundle. Bundles contain any one lash of choice, candy, stickers, and a scrunchie. I chose to market my bundles as “Cherry Milkshake Bundles.” Because my current theme is fruit/cherry inspired, I had to think of a clever way to market my bundles so they would attract customers. I looked for inspiration on all social media platforms, and came up with this milkshake concept after it was nowhere to be found! I truly think I’ve created something unique, different, and exciting for my customers. 7) How long did it take to design the stickers ? It took me a couple of days to design my stickers. Because I already have some designing experience in the past, it was not too difficult. The challenging part is yet to come— I have plans to add many more sticker designs to my collection so it’ll take time to come up with them! 8) Any advice for people who might be interested in starting a business ? I always give the same answer to those who are interested in starting a business: make sure you’re passionate about it! If you don’t mind spending countless hours on it, staying up all night long, and spending a good amount of initial money, then I say go for it! I believe that doing these things are derived from being passionate. If your business idea is something you love and you believe that you are able to pursue it with passion, NOTHING will stop you from being successful. 9) What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started (something you know now that you didn’t before ) One thing I wish I knew before was how much dedication it would take to maintain my business. It’s definitely not as easy as it looks from an outsider point of view. There are hundreds of little steps that need to be taken in order for a business to run seamlessly and successfully, which is something I underestimated. Regardless, I am proud of all the time and effort I’ve put into it because I’ve received an overwhelming amount of good response!

1. PRIMER: PICK A BOOK THAT LEFT A LASTING IMPRESSION. For this one I have three: Dear Martin by Nic Stone, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and Love from A to Z by S.K. Ali. I adored these books and they left a lasting impact on me. I would highly recommend any of these books to anyone looking for a book that you'll learn a lot from. Personally, I like using the Maybelline Primer. I'm not a makeup expert, but I've noticed a difference when I use it compared to when I don't. 2. FOUNDATION: PICK YOUR FAVORITE FIRST BOOK IN A SERIES. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han is.a personal favorite. It's a cute, lighthearted family dramedy with a love triangle that's introduced later on. The author, Jenny Han, mentioned in an interview on The Today Show that she used to write letters to her crushes and that the idea came from a what if scenario. What if those letters got out? For foundation, I use the smashbox liquid foundation or BB cream. It really just depends on the event I'm attending or what I'm doing. 3. CONCEALER: PICK A CHARACTER YOU WISH YOU COULD GET RID OF. President Coin from The Hunger Games. She's one of those characters that are the literal worse because they're manipulative. You have no idea how they're going to react or what shitty thing they're going to do next. She's willing to do whatever it takes even if that means that others die because of her ambitious goals. I like to use the maybelline concealer if I do use concealer. 4. POWDER: PICK YOUR FAVORITE LAST BOOK IN A SERIES. Allegiant by Veronica Roth. The first book was great and the second was mediocre. But, I HATE the last one. It's so bad. I don't mind the character death, but it could have been executed in a better way. I rarely use powder, but when I do it's the Stay true match one by maybelline. 5. EYELASHES: A BOOK YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD READ. A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi. It's a post 9/11 story that centers around Shirin and how she deals with Islamophobia at school. I also rarely use eyelash extensions, but I recently started using @MahaCosmetics' eyelashes in the type, "Glamour." Stay tuned for the interview with her. 6. EYESHADOW: A BOOK THAT HAS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR ON THE COVER. Leah on the offbeat by Becky Albertalli. I love that we get a more in-depth story on Leah's characters because she was a great side character in Simon vs. the Homo Sapien Agenda. In case you didn't know, my favorite color is teal. 7. EYELINER: PICK A DARK AND MYSTERIOUS BOOK An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. In case you didn't know, Sabaa Tahir mentioned in an interview with Penguin Teen that the books is loosely based off events that occurred in Kashmir. It's a dark and mysterious book with hints of romance. According to her Twitter, Sabaa is an American-raised, Pakistani-descended, British-born, Muslim Immigrant woman. A SKY BEYONG THE STORM (last book in the An Ember in the Ashes series) comes out on December 1st, 2020! Now for eyeliner, I have used both the maybelline and tarte one. I like both. 8. MASCARA: PICK A LOOOOOONG BOOK. Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Can you tell she's one of my favorite YA authors? Her series is long, but the mystery, adventure, fantasy, and romance will keep you going. My current fave is the L'OREAL Long lash mascara (the metallic pink one). 9. BLUSH: PICK A BOOK THAT HAD SOME CRINGE-WORTHY ROMANCE. This next one is one of my current faves even though it's cringy at times. I loved the So Not Happening trilogy by Jenny B. Jones. I don't use blush, so I can't really recommend one. 10. HIGHLIGHTER: PICK A BOOK THAT BRIGHTENED YOUR DAY. The Novice by Taran Matharu. It's been pitched as a Harry Potter meets The Chronicles of Narnia meets Pokemon. If you're looking for an amazing book that's not written by J.K. Rowling to fill the void, then read this one! So, for highlighter, I got a Marc Jacobs one in a set as a gift and it's been my favorite highlighter to use. If you want a more affordable one, I recommend nyx or maybelline! 11. LIPSTICK: YOUR FAVORITE BOOK KISS. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. I love these two so much and it's getting a Netflix India adaptation this fall!! I can't wait to see it. I really love this bare minerals lipstick and this one from clinique (it's in a maroon shade), but I can't remember the name. This website uses marketing and tracking technologies.
